FAQ Why building 7b? The atmosphere is more laid back than the other places. Moreover, it doesn't cost anything to play there. It's also a wide open area, so you don't have to worry about walls, and the ceilings are pretty high. There are some drawbacks however. Because it is in a lounge area, and no one really "owns" it, the premisis are utilized on a first come first serve basis. There have been times when other students have been using the table for projects or what have you. To ensure that this would happen less frequently, we started playing at later hours. Usually after midnight. There isn't typically anyone around, except the janitor. We've established a somewhat friendly co-existence with him though. The other drawback, which the raffle is aimed at remedying, is that the table is a peice of crap. However, we believe that the benefits of this location outweigh the drawbacks. I suck at table tennis. Can I still play? Yes! The only way to get better is to practice. Besides, it's no fun if there isn't some variation in the skill level of the players. I'm sure other people will suck too... and if not, I'll pretend to suck so you feel better. Why don't you call it "ping pong"? Ping pong is a brand name trademarked by a company that manufactures and/or sells table tennis equipment. Just like a copier isn't a "xerox" machine... unless it was made by Xerox... you get the idea. Who are you guys? Basically, we're just a couple of guys (and the occasional girl) who think table tennis is fun. We stumbled upon the table in building 7b in spring 2001, and have been playing there fairly regularly ever since. |
